Between ecoli and ignoring an infestation of rats, Taco Bell has had its problems. When the rats took over a store in Greenwich Village in 2007, the chain was punk’d by social media But now it’s four years later, and a class action suit against Taco Bell is asking “Where’s the beef?”
It’s smart strategy. But i wonder: does it make you want to choose Taco Bell for lunch today?
This time around, Taco Bell is using social media and traditional media to immediately and vociferously deny the charges and tell their side of the story. They’ve taken out full-page ads in newspapers (remember them?) across the country, and the CEO strikes just the right tone in the video entitled “Thank You for suing us””
I love the fact that they are using social media as a way of fighting back these days and have full control over it rather than being attacked by it. I can’t comment on their beef being real or not (I don’t think you need to be a genius to figure it out!!) but the fact that they are using social media tools and video in particular to fight back on this is very smart!
