Just today, The Big Blog Company blog maintained that PR people are “merely adding blogs to the list of channels that blast the company’s message at the consumer.”
I added a comment to the post, saying that there are good PR people and bad PR people. And then, an hour later, along comes the Clueless PR Pitch of the Week, from one of the latter.
The email said “I have a hot one for you and wanted to give you a heads up before the official announcement. This is the first waterproof MP3 player and headphones. It’s good for water sports, surfing, snowboarding, running in the rain or lounging in a hot tub.”
This great development, the email assured, “will not be announced until the end of the month.” It comes from iRiver and H2O Audio.
Just typing “waterproof MP3 player” into Google showed me that there already are at least three existing waterproof MP3 players on the market.
One from Oregon Scientific
One from Swimman
And one from Nike
I suggested the flack read my article, “The PR Lessons of a Clueless Blog Pitch”
Duh.

That is very funny. I don’t have anything against PR people, in fact, some of my best friends are PR people…
OK, you got me there. :-)
Some really stupd PR
Clueless pr pitch of the week from what’snextblog is a beauty. Remember to check those bold claims!
I love your site. I responded to ‘the big blog’, too.
Not wanting to draw you into something, but on another similar PR thought, I would appreciate hearing your opinion of this ‘pr definition’ from the Linux Certification Institute. I found it while doing some research.
Linux Media Guide
Does this frighten you? I know the audience for this ‘institute’ is Linux programmers, but the Sheldon Rose (sackepr.com) simplification of ‘PR as publicity’/practitioner as ‘publicist’ (implied, not stated) really irks me. SackePR is the agency of record for Linux.
Thanks.
