Vice President Dick Cheney should have done a little fact-checking of his own before he told Sen. John Edwards to get his facts straight during Tuesday’s heated face-off between the running mates.
When urging viewers to visit a Web site that might refute some of Edwards’ statements, Cheney pointed to FactCheck.com, not FactCheck.org.
Instead, surfers were redirected to the site of outspoken Bush opponent George Soros, where a message at the top read: “President Bush is endangering our safety, hurting our vital interests and undermining American values.”
On Soros’ site, his statement says “We do not own the FactCheck.com domain name and are not responsible for it redirecting to GeorgeSoros.com. We are as surprised as anyone by this turn of events.”
To whomever is re-directing the site: bravo! This is sure to create a lot of blog activity over the next few hours. And sooner or later, it’ll also show up in traditional media. :>)
Not exactly what Cheney had in mind.
