Starting today, startup Lone Signal, will send your SMS messages into space in an effort to contact extraterrestrials.
When you sign up to Lone Signal you can send one free text message into space. What are you going to say?
How it works: Jamesburg Earth Station outside Carmel, California will start beaming 144 character text messages to outer space. Lone Signal recently signed a 30-year lease for the Cold War era space station, which will be the headquarters of the METI project (Messaging to Extraterrestrial Intelligence).
If you’ve got more to say, you can sign up for a subscription package for $1 to $100 (sending JPGs costs more).
P.S. – Don’t miss their terrific blog.
I’m sad to say, Lone Signal has stopped allowing people to buy credits and they have stopped sending messages into space. How long this may last in unknown, but something about funding.
