Al Sharpton is defending Janet Jackson to the hilt. That ought to sell a lot of CDs.
“Everything that happened after the Super Bowl was so overblown,” says the perpetual candidate. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael Powell overreacted [to Jackson’s Nipplegate] “in order that the Bush administration could try and distract people from the real problems of this country.”
I am wondering if anyone remembers the Meese commission from the past Bush/Reagan administration, also using any reason they could find to restrict our freedoms of the press and media. For anyone who does not remember, Edwin Meese was our Attorney General. First he decided to restrict the sales of “obscene” materials like Playboy and Hustler magazines at 7/11, which were already behind the counter, then any publications that ran the original Calvin Klein Obession ads also never made it to the news stands. Now, under pressure from the current administration, even news magazines and talk shows are being censored for language and being politically incorrect. Howard Stern is also being threatened with very high fines for doing and saying the same things he has been doing for 20 years, a real threat to our society. Shortly after 9/11, I met the head of a right winged radio group whose biggest issue was/is to get Stern off the air. I said Stern had just raised milions of dollars for the rescue workers; I asked what did he do for the victims? He had no answer.
In closing…If you value your freedoms, vote Bush out!
It’s even worse than that! Now they are introducing legislation to take funding from non-profit groups that criticize the administration. Hello KGB?
