As tolerance for, and the effectiveness of, traditional advertising declines, brands are still alive and well in song lyrics. Mercedes, Cadillac and Lexus are the top three brands mentioned in the top 20 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, according to Agenda’s Brandstand. Cost to the brands? Zero.
Also in the top 10 most-mentioned are Hennessy, Prada, and Chevrolet. Payless Shoe Source is number 12 and K-Mart, Timberland, Rover and Fendi are tied for Number 20.
While hot brands favored by GenX might be expected, the brands in the list are traditional luxury brands and well-known discount retailers.
