Is Hershey’s cracked? I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when Hershey execs approved the packaging for their new Ice Breakers breath mints.
Either, someone convinced them that packaging breath fresheners to look like crack cocaine was trendy and cool, or they really didn’t know that crack and heroin both come in packages similar to Ice Breakers. Narcotics dealers sometimes name their products to give them brand recognition and to earn repeat clients, according to Narcs. Enterprising drug dealers are surely printing up “Ice Breaker” labels for their nickel bags right now.
As these 185+ stories show, police are concerned, they say, that a child could mistake the crack for candy: a tragedy in the making.
Hershey’s is defending the packaging, saying each little envelope is clearly labeled. “It is not intended to simulate anything,” Hershey spokesman Kirk Saville told Associated Press. He’ll undoubtedly be saying “would you like fries with that?” next week.
Defending this product is just plain dumb. Defending the packaging – whether or not cops are right – just makes Hershey’s look like they don’t care about kids – who are, doh! – their core customers.

You should admit that the attention Hershey gets from you as well as from some others is a strategic marketing success.
and: it is parents who care about the way a company treats their kids and not the kids themselves. so consequently no problems with the core customer – who is, in fact, quite keen on shocking some unsuspecting mothers.
Anyone who thinks the two look the same is a fucking idiot. First off crack/heroin baggies are little ziplock baggies with a zipper on the top. These hershey baggies are completely sealed making them look very different.
Sure, it was a bad idea. But it isn’t very likely that any child, as yet unexposed to crack/heroin/cocaine, is going to find a baggy of the substance lying around. Hell, I’ve had crackhead friends, and I’ve never seen their shit just lying around. They’re fairly protective of it. And when you are a crackhead, you spend all your money on crack and don’t have any left over to buy your children icebreakers with.
There are probably lots of things in small packages that could be mistaken for drugs; this is just a fearful overreaction driven by a war-on-drugs culture. Why not raise a stink over the companies who make the tiny crack bags? Because it would be completely ridiculous. Why not get mad at companies who manufacture Oregano or Basil because they look like marijuana? Or (gasp!) that bag of flour could actually be cocaine!
i would never think it looks anything like a dime bag… first off crack isnt sealed off like that, it, and weed and what not, comes in mini zip lock baggies. and personally, i have never seen a blue dime bag in my vast cannabis history.
This is going to be more of a problem for junkies, who in desparate times might see an Icebreakers packet someone dropped and desparately smoke/snort/inject it only to be disappointed.
This is absurd. Does crack come in standardized bags? Does every dealer get his little blue bag collection when he graduates from dealer school? No. Crack is crack no matter what package it comes in. Blue bag + ziplock seal + small size does NOT EQUAL crack bag. Crack can come in ANY bag and often does.

Mainly because they are jewelers supplies, and not made for crack.
I think they never realized how it looked so much like them, and yeah crack addicts don’t spend a lot of money on Icebreakers to begin with, for them or their kids.
I’m thinking this isn’t hershey’s fault, it’ll be the crack dealers. they come up with anything to match the current trends, whether it looks like crack cocaine or not.
Three questions about this whole shindig: yeah? and? so what? Carrots look like penises. Does that mean we should be packaging them in opaque bags? And flowers are the sexual organs of some plants . . . how about them? If we allow alarmist crap like this to have any impact then we are allowing the triumph of idiots over reason. The worst that could possibly happen with this packaging is that some idiot buys something he thought was crack, but in fact wasn’t. Where in there do we see a problem?
I hear McCormick is now selling their oregano and parsely in 1/8 ounce portions packaged in cool little ziploc baggies.
I wish my dealer cared more about packaging my crack like the authors dealer. I always get mine in a plain old cigarette cellophane and sometimes it has a rip in it or they didn’t seal the top with a lighter,and the crack spills out in my pocket! Cheap bastard.
Hershey should make their own crack or herion.

Well, the word “Icebreakers” on it looks like a line of coke. The word itself is suggestive. Thats more than enough stimulus the brain needs to get into “drug” zone. The little “pacs” are clearly pharmaceutical looking too.. these guys would sell their mothers given half a chance.
