It is my understanding that McCain was reiterating a short-lived popular “Bomb Iran” Beach Boys parody song from the late 1970s. After the U.S. Embassy in Iran was stormed and taken over, and Americans were held hostage for more than a year.
The precedent for the parody had been set. McCain only repeated it.

I’d rather avoid the politics when your thoughts on marketing in this new-media world are so often insightful and interesting, but here goes nothing: “Losing his mind” seems a vast overstatement. I was expecting a Dean-esque yell-and-scream-fest about storming into Tehran with a headline like that. This video clip doesn’t even show us whatever might have followed that joke.
I’d rather see a candidate with some personality — especially in smaller settings like this apparently was — than one who’s constantly afraid of being on camera.

Maybe it was a hoot 30 years ago. It’s without humor now. McCain lost it.

I’m surprised Mike Love hasn’t asked McCain to join the Beach Boys yet.
