An email is spreading virally from the UK to the US advising everyone to ICE their cell phone — add In Case of Emergency contact information for paramedics. My friend Ed Miller, who is a Fire Chief in California says it is not “universal” in the United States yet, but it will be soon. Costs nothing. Can’t hurt, could help.
Says the email: “In an emergency, paramedics will turn to a victim’s cell phone for clues to that person’s identity. …Add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone number of the person/persons emergency personnel should call if you are in an accident or get ill someplace you are not known. It saves valuable time. Loved ones will be contacted quickly. It might enable them to get to the hospital quickly and provide important medical information or give you support when you need it most.”
I added ICE 1, 2, 3 and 4 numbers, with the 4th being my doctor’s name and number.
