Esther Dyson, for whom I have the greatest of respect, has an OpEd piece in the NY Times today in favor or AOL’s proposed charges for email. “Pretty soon sending most e-mail will cost money,” she writes, “but I think that’s only right.”
I don’t. While I love her idea that she’d charge ex-boyfriends $10 to send her email, I think AOL, Google, and Yahoo! et al need to concentrate on cancelling the accounts of known spammers and phishers instead of charging the rest of us for sending email.
