The number of food blogs is mushrooming according to the Washington Post.
Type “food”‘ and “blog” into Google, and the results exceed 8 million. The number of actual English-language food blogs is far lower. Paul McCann of Kiplog puts the estimate at about 600, but says it’s increasing daily.
The article says “And people are reading.” But the fact that blogs are published, as any blogger can tell you, doesn’t mean they have an audience. That still takes marketing, great content, search optimization savvy, a dash of controversy and continuity.

Typing “food” and “blog” into Google is pretty meaningless. I get 2.4 million entry for typing “food” and “pants” into Google.
A better (though still deeply unscientific) query is this one:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&c2coff=1&q=%22food+blog%22&btnG=Search
It returns 58,300 entries. Try that one again in two months and see where it’s at.
yes, that’s definitely a better way to search.
Thanks!
I think the power of food and recipe blogging lies in the many bloggers (including myself) who occassionally blog food or recipe items but who you would not necessarily find if you did a search for “food blog” only. Most of the traffic that I get to my site from recipes is searching for a specific recipe or visits from Carnival of the Recipes, My Blog is Burning, etc. The media attention is, of course, given to those who spend all of their energy on food and recipes, but my point is that you miss some great recipes that way.
