OReilly Radar points to Botanicalls, Kate Hartman, Kati London, Rebecca Bray, and Rob Faludi’s “sensor+asterisk-hack” that allows plants to call you when they need to be watered. The project was part of the NYU interactive telecommunications biannual graduate showcase. No word on whether carnivorous plants will call to ask for a hamburger.
Botanicalls opens a new channel of communication between plants and humans, in an effort to promote successful inter-species understanding.
When a plant on the Botanicalls network needs water, it can call a person and ask for exactly what it needs. When people phone the plants, the plants orient callers to their habits and characteristics. Call 212.202.8348 to hear more about each of the plants.
