The email said that Jack Welch, Chariman of General Motors issued a caustic (and funny) press release after Bill Gates stated at COMDEX, “If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.”
According to the email, the GM release said, “If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars that crash twice a day for no reason;” and then named a dozen other Windows computer characteristics cars would have.
Ooops! The current GM Chairman is Rick Wagoner, not Jack Welch. It used to be Jack Smith, but neither of them ever said that. Hello? Snopes

The story started in 1997 says Snopes: “the purported sardonic response from General Motors is nothing more than an evolving joke that someone decided would be funnier if put in the mouth of an identifiable real person.”
Next time I’ll include the Snopes link when I pass it on. :>)
Thanks to David Berkowitz for pointing to Snopes.
