Do you think there would have been bus loads of school children protesting, daily news coverage and an online hue and cry if high-rise hawks Pale Male and Lola’s nest had been torn down from a run-down tenement in Harlem?
I know I’m a cynic, but I bet we would not have heard a single peep if the eviction happened in a dangerous, poor neighborhood.

No, likely not. But I don’t think it would have to do with media coverage – the community, like other poor communities, have too many human issues to notice the plight of nonhumans. It’s tough because environmental and animal based causes are often called the celebrity or affluent causes for this reason.
I believe there’s enough suffering out there for each of us to lend a hand to other humans and nonhumans.
