In all the breathless hype about the”Passion” movie, Mel Gibson has not indicated that even one penny from the film is being given to charity. And, whatever you think of the film, you can rest assured it will make Gibson pot fulls of money.
So much for tithing.
What Happened to Tithing Mr. Gibson?

Yes, I too am waiting to hear that he will feed the world with all the net profits (he has a right to recoup his $10 million, imo). I sincerely hope that he does Good Work with the funds, otherwise, I will be greatly disappointed. We’ll see!
How much Gibson decides to donate to his church is between him, his pastor and his God. He owes no one any explanations.
On a sidenote, his marketing tactic for this movie–marketing directly to churches and the people who would be most interested in the movie while bypassing the religious writers and movie reviewers–was pure genius. Talk about creating the buzz.
I think Andy Rooney on 60-Minutes this past week was probably right in his comments about Pat Robertson saying that God told him that Bush was going to win in a landslide and about Mr. Gibson and his “Passion” movie, that they are both “Nuts”. Personally I have found many of these type people to be hypocrites, doing for themselves rather than for others. Paul Newman appears to one of the few examples of people doing good things for others, keeping a low profile.
I wouldn’t be so sure that he’s going to make a lot of money from the film. From everything I hear, aside from the perceived anti-Semitism, it sounds horrifically violent and not especially notable as art. I, for one, have no interest in seeing it. Remember John Travolta’s Scientology epic? I can’t even remember the name of it, it was out of the theaters so fast. Granted, Gibson’s gotten huge advance PR for it, but films are funny that way — as soon as they’re out, if they stink, word-of-mouth is unstoppable and people just don’t go if they hear it’s no good. Think Gigli and Mondona’s last flop.
Mel does notowe anything to anybody. The tithe teaching of today is a totally man made concoction. The Biblical Tithe is nothing like this new teaching. A tremendous Bublical word and practice has been hijacked and pasted upon this fabrication of the flesh. To then claim that God is the authority behind this invention – and use it to extract 10% (or more) from unsuspecting and unlearned victims – is extortion in the Name of Jesus Chist. God is tracking this abuse and I have become convinced this falls under the 1Cor 6:10 Greek word, “harpax.” Some translate this word “swindler” and others “extortioner.” To be in an official position – and use God for this unlawful extraction – is an offense of the highest order. If my studies (and ebook) on this matter are correct, those practicing this “will not inherit the kingdom of God” (1Cor 6:10). I will not be surprised to find that those who promote this teaching will be part of the group who “profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him …” (Ti 1:16).
