I am trying really hard to keep my political views out of the Katrina crisis coverage. But what president of the United States, Democrat or Republican, would not have rushed to New Orleans on the very first day as soon as the storm stopped?
Anyone else, including George Bush Sr, would have been there with boots on.

How funny that our Great President was conveniently close in Texas, then flew back all the way to Washington, and now that his PR guys realized how bad he looks, he goes back to look… I would not bet on
the boots though:-)
Clinton would have been knee deep in the water.
Schwartzenegger would have been in a boat spectacularly saving some kids from the rooftop.
(See, I am not partisan)
Yes, your politics are in the way. As one news commentator stated that it was a good thing President Bush did not visit New Orleans right after the hurricane. If he had, the local officials would have had to call in the New Orleans police from rescue efforts to provide for his security. So by staying away he allowed the police to continue their critical rescue and law enforcement responsibilities. You sound like Cindy Sheehan who blames the President for the devastation.
Gimme me a break – get in touch with reality girl.
Shape of Days has a good explanation
Don’t you *ever* call me or any other womnan girl!

Joel: What a bunch of baloney. There is no other leader of a free country that wouldn’t immediately have made his or her way to a disaster of this immensity. It’s called moral support. Or you could call it humanity.
President Bush’s support for the oil industry and his spurning of the Kyoto Protocol in 2000 have directly contributed to the increase in sea-surface temperatures which have caused the current increase in category 3-5 hurricanes on the US East Coast.
I’m with BL on this. Politically I am no supporter of Bush but he has made some major gaffes. Not least his comments about “who could have predicted”, which I heard for the first time after reading about specific predictions made last March and even back in 2004.
One must also wonder where the local elected representatives are….the mayors, governors, the state representatives, members of congress, senators etc. I see lots of footage of looters but none of the Mayor of New Orleans with his hip boots on.
Bush’s actions clearly demonstrate that if you are not a millionaire he couldn’t care less about you. The sight of Haley Barbour playing apologist for Bush while his constituants suffer due to Bush administration policy consequences was nauseating. Any Alabaman or Missisippian who votes Republican after this gets what they deserve.
And we don’t get to vote again til 2008. Right now, I’d be supporting the mayor of New Orleans. He tells it like it is.
