Picture%202.pngSweden is to become the first country to establish diplomatic representation in the virtual reality world of Second Life, according to The International Herald Tribune.
The Swedish Institute’s director, Olle Wästberg says the virtual embassy will provide information about Swedish culture and history, as well as suggestions for places to visit in the RL country.
“This is a very simple and cheap way to reach a large group of younger, educated people who are flooded with information,” Wästberg told the Associated Press. “Cheap”, of course, is a relative term. But certainly setting up shop in the metaverse can be cheaper than other promotional methods. However, unless the SL presence has features of interest to residents, it’s just as likely to be empty as the other corporate projects that lay unused in SL.
