Marketing Sherpa’s Search Engine Strategies Wrap Up Report notes that “Although search marketing’s been around for 10 years now, it only hit the marketing mainstream in 2003, and heated up to the boiling point over the past few months.”
As I pointed out in my article, How to Search Engine Optimize Your Press Releases and Why Your Should, you have to optimize releases, articles and product reviews just as you would any web page: pick a keyword phrase and use it several times in the release.
Says Sherpa: “We foresee a boom in the press release distribution world when (ok, if) the PR world catches onto this.
Maybe in another 10 years or so.”
OK, so Anne Holland is making fun of PR people. But she’s so right. The vast majority of the industry has simply has no clue how to integrate the Internet — let alone blogs — into marketing and PR.
PR Industry Still Largely Clueless on Internet Marketing

Holland should mock us. I picked up the latest issue of PRSA’s Tactics and it had an article discussing how to e-mail a press release. Are you f*ing kidding me?
