The number of hosted blogs is expected to exceed 53.4 million by the end of 2005, according to research released today by Perseus Development Corp. The company randomly surveyed 10,000 blogs on 20 leading blog-hosting services to release the latest edition of its model of blog populations.
Jeffrey Henning, CTO of Perseus credits Dave Winer’s first Bloggercon, in October 2000, backed by Harvard, for propelling media and public interest in the category and dramatically accelerating growth.
I’m not so sure one event is responsible. Blogging has had many evangelists.
