Tonight, my 7 year-old nephew told me he learned in science that a machine is anything used to make work easier. Therefore, he said, a screw or a nail are both machines.
I think that working on computers from age two onward, playing video games and living in a message-saturated world has actually helped kids to grasp abstract concepts.
