Increasing its already substantial coolness factor significantly, JetBlue Airways and an AirCell Inc. affiliate won an auction for licenses to provide high-speed Internet service on commercial planes, said the Federal Communications Commission. JetBlue, which already offers live satellite television in flight, plans to offer onboard Internet service.
JetBlue and AirCell bid a combined $38.3 million to win the spectrum, currently used by Verizon Airfone, which provides seat-back telephone service.
