Penton Media has re-launched its site InternetWorld.com as “an interactive online community for e-commerce professionals, complete with personalized Weblogs and free registration. This model gives visitors the power to build the site into a Web-based forum that they can both contribute to and profit from professionally.”
Back in the day, Penton ran the huge, cacophonous Internet World shows, which were the must-go. In the heydey, tsotchkes were astoundingly great and booth promotion and entertainment were completely over the top. Sure was big fun. Sigh.

I did two tours as marketing director for that cacaphony, once with Mecklermedia once right before the sale to Penton.
The thing with IW back when Alan still owned it was that everyone involved were true believers. When Penton bought it, the mag and shows became just another franchise expected to produce more and more and more.
Unless Penton has a champion or two behind this thing with street cred, I’d expect it to fall flat on its face. IW is a dead brand.
Alan still has a lot of those folks from the halcyon days with him at Jupiter. He’s the magnet – with both staunch supporters and detractors. Penton is just another garden-variety publisher.
