On the heels of Pew Internet’s overhyped stats on podcasting, comes a CNET report on a truly clueless survey which concludes “blog censorship wins support.” The problem: 73 percent of the 2,500 surveyed had never heard of blogs before the survey and only 30 percent had ever visited one. CNET reported the survey as straight news, which doesn’t say much for their standards.
Following in the time-honored tradition of experts who know nothing about a subject but have fervent opinions anyway, 52 percent said bloggers should have the same rights as traditional journos; 39 percent said they found blogs less credible than newspaper articles, although an additional 32 percent said they either did not know or had no opinion.
The survey was conducted by web hosting company Hostway.
