Google seems confident in the commercial viability of blog advertising, and is testing a new blog ad service. The beta version of AdSense for blogs allows publishers to send a text or banner advertisement that is related to a post by using Really Simple Syndication (RSS) or Atom, Google’s adopted format.
The Microsoft-centered Longhornblogs.com blog is the first to experiment with the beta. On his blog, Longhornblogs publisher Robert McLaws writes, “Like all of their tests, it may disappear for a while, or be discontinued altogether. … IF Google decides to launch this product, you can expect to see a wider public beta in the next few weeks.”
I bet it launches and becomes very successful because many bloggers are ready to roll into making money and the current AdSense, designed for use on websites, isn’t easily adaptable to blog layouts and constraints.
