Market Intelligence firm Umbria Communications will launch several changes to its Buzz Report blog-monitoring tool, according to ClickZ. The Report allows marketers to monitor online conversations on blogs, messages boards and chat rooms to track brand opinions and perceptions.
Umbria says it takes an egalitarian approach, tracking not just to more influential bloggers but also so-called “lone bloggers” whose posts top bloggers tend to read.
Intelliseek updated its Blog Pulse last week, making influence a bigger part of the equation when weighing the source being monitored.

Where do you get that the updates to BlogPulse increase the weight of sources? I know they added a ranking system to the top linked bloggers but it is my understanding that this does not affect their data collection or indexing schemes.
Umbria is making unfounded claims that their methodology is more “egalitarian” than other vendors in this space but they have simultaneously failed to produce a detailed description of their methodology and illustrated a complete lack of knowledge of their competitors methodologies.
Intelliseek is a clear market leader in this space – and for good reason. The BlogPulse tool, I might add, is a FREE consumer facing service. Not only does Umbria not provide any free services, they do not appear to maintain their own blog nor do they publush samples of any of their products. In fact, I have yet to see anything from them except vapor.

I’ve written a much more complete discussion of Umbria Communications inconsistent marketing message and demonstrated capabilities here.
