Q –What do you get if you add an army of fact checkers to user-generated content in Wikipedia?
A– Encyclopedia Britanica
In the wake of a credentials brouhaha, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has stated that Wikipedia plans to check the credentials of those who post to the user-created encyclopedia. With what army of fact checkers?
Wikipedia will require people who boast prestigious credentials to reveal their identities in their posts, according to a News Factor Network story in which I was quoted today.
As I told Jennifer LeClaire at NewsFactor Network, the take away here is that people need to add monitoring what’s said about them in Wikipedia to monitoring blogs and other online media in a regular basis.
Confession: I had not checked my own name in Wikipedia. And it’s not there. Now I need to decide if I want to add an entry or keep one more task off my to do list.
Wikipedia Says It Will Check Credendtials of Posters. But How? And Why?
