Here’s the email I got when I filled out the incredibly long and stupid registration form required before I could get email from ABC News:
Dear Minnie Mouse,
Welcome to ABCNEWS.com – and our family of businesses!
Go to ABCNEWS.com 2-3 times a day for extensive, accurate and up-to-the-minute news coverage.
We’re glad you’ve joined us! ….. blah blah blah
Asking for my name and my email I can understand. But my address, phone number, date of birth…that’s none of your business when all I want to do is join a mailing list. Sheesh!
Why Demanding Detailed Site Registration Information is a Really Dumb Idea

Interesting one this, as debate over registration requirements on our new site has been raging. What does anyone think about requesting gender and age range (not specific age)? Personally I have no problem re: gender and generally I’m quite likely to lie about my age (probably due to my gender). Would be v interested to know what other people think/have done.
