After 911, while everyone else was talking about it, The American Red Cross gave me and thousands of other displaced New York survivors food, money, a hotel voucher, and the really basic stuff like a toothbrush and a comb. They even had food for my dog.
The Red Cross saved my life and I am 100 percent sure they are saving lives in New Orleans and everywhere else that people need help. Please donate today. People are in disaster of biblical proportion. Do what you can to help. The situation becomes more desperate by the minute. Donate right now. Please.
It took FEMA weeks to get their act together. And every second of dealing with them was an ordeal. The Red Cross knows what to do and how to do it. Donate generously!

Thanks BL for your post. This reminds me of 9/11 and I thank God for the Red Cross and the other relief agencies working to alleviate suffering.
From what I can see, the suffering is absolutely unimaginable. We really need to pull together to help the people to go on.
It is only the start of hurricane season!
My fiest internship in college was with the American Red Cross and I can tell you they are an amazing organization.
Thanks BL…
I’m doing double duty now as a spokesman for our Red Cross chapter, and now an exec with this fall’s United Way campaign.
When I was in the media, I knew about the Red Cross and what it does, but had no idea about all of the great obstacles that have to be overcome to make relief happen. It’s the only organization that can zip in overnight, set up the equivalent of a multi-million dollar corporation, serve its clients, and scale back down just as quickly.
On the large operations, the “overhead” is dwindling to under 5-percent… and at times as low as 3.
When you also consider that you are charged sales tax when you spend, and the Red Cross isn’t, there’s no better way to leverage your charity. Not in a case like this, anyway.
Thanks for the free ad space, BL. ;)
I’m a 911 survivor. I have been through so-called government disaster relief. It’s a bunch of PR crap. While everybody else is looking for photo ops, The Red Cross swoops in, sets up, helps on every level, and stays as long as you need them.
I am so honored that friends and associates of mine have donated to The Red Cross because of my post. I owe my very life to those wonderful people.

I’ve only had limited experience, but I would have to agree. When my next-door neighbors house burned, the Red Cross was th…
Blog for Relief Day
Glenn suggested that on September 1, bloggers make a unified effort to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. My friend B.L. recommends donating to the American Red Cross, because of her experience on 9/11. Please give what you can.
