Why don’t you have a blog on your re-election website? Don’t you want to know what New Yorkers think about you?
Put up a blog. We need to talk to you Mayor Bloomberg. Entrepreneurs like me pay nearly $500 a month for health insurance. We want to talk to you about your platform on health insurance and a lot of other issues that impact on small business. We need you to listen, respond and take action. We’re the creative backbone of this city, and we vote. Your blog would give us an effective way to communicate with you.

What are you waiting for? Start a blog! And when you do, make time to write on it yourself at least every couple of days. Because if you have some flack do it, we’ll see right through you.

As Blogmaster for New Haven Mayor John DeStefano’s 2006 Gubernatorial Campaign Blog, http://www.destefanoforct.com, I want to make a few comments on this.
While I am an active Democrat, I encourage all candidates, no matter which party, to have blogs. It is important that candidates open themselves up to discussions with voters.
That said, don’t disparage us poor flacks. I am sure that Mayor Bloomberg’s time is as tight as Mayor DeStefano’s time and it will be hard for him to find time to blog frequently. So, having posts by the flacks (properly identified), along with less frequent posts by the candidates themselves appears to be a stronger approach. The flacks can keep the discussions going and present ideas that the candidate can later respond to and expand on.
I hope Mayor Bloomberg takes your advice and we can get better discussions about issues facing all of us.
Ok, I see your point. As long as the writers are properly identified and agree not to treat the blog like a press release, having more than one author is ok.
My advice to Mayor Bloomberg: call or email me about blogging.
