“Somebody in the audience today asked me what they should do if their boss doesn’t like the idea of them blogging. I replied that if you have something interesting to say about your product, and if your boss won’t let you blog, my guess is that he’s probably an idiot, and you should quit your job and go work for somebody else.”

Well, but companies have email and phone policies, so why not blogging policies?
An employer has a right to restrict the communications of employees, and some employees might abuse the privilege.
Some employers would rather not let anyone blog, than have to deal with crazy blog misadventures, which can be very costly and time consuming to overcome.
Praising a product, mentioning the sandwich you had for lunch, and expressing your hatred for the Bush administration…these random expressions can come quite quickly and naturally as a blogger blurts out whatever he or she feels entitled to blabber about.
