The Wall St. Journal reports that a Texas grand jury today charged Rep. Tom DeLay and two political associates with conspiracy in a campaign finance scheme, forcing the House majority leader to temporarily relinquish his post. The blogosphere is abuzz.
DeLay attorney Steve Brittain said Mr. DeLay was accused of a criminal conspiracy along with two associates, John Colyandro, former executive director of a Texas political action committee formed by Mr. DeLay, and Jim Ellis, who heads Mr. DeLay’s national political committee.
In their briefing today, Bush and Scotty didn’t exactly offer support for DeLay. And not one Republican Senator has jumped to his defense either.
Obviously, this is both an embarrassment and a major marketing challenge for the G.O.P.
