I’m confused by the two posts back-to-back. You say the Old Spice campaign “reeks” but love the Crispin work for Burger King?
Now, I’m not a fan of Old Spice SM campaign, but look at the history of the Crispin commercials and Burger King sales – not much of a hockey stick. Particularly after the Subservient Chicken campaign.
The Subservient Chicken campaign happened almost 10 years ago. At that point, brands were just trying to learn whether this Internet stuff could actually generate attention. And that campaign sure as hell got millions of views and a whole lot of interaction. Today, that’s where we start. Integration is the key. Not just buzz. Although buzz is great. Wonderful!!!! It’s just not enough anymore.
The current Burger King bun joke is just funny. It’s not a marketing campaign, it’s a joke, it reminds you that the brand exists. Think about what that joke cost, v what Old Spice has spent to date. These are not comparable.
Curious to know: why are you not a fan of the Old Spice social media play?
