Bags with little solar panels on the outside will soon allow people to recharge mobile phones, PDAs and laptops on the run, according to Smart Mobs.
The technology is already used by the Israeli military but hasn’t filtered to consumer level yet. Due out later this year are about 20 different styles from black leather wallets to coloured shoulder bags and they should cost between US$23-113.
The bags and cases have a plastic photovoltaic cell on the outside to convert solar to electrical energy, which in turn runs to a plug inside the bag. Mobile phone covers, laptop cases and bags with photovoltaic cells will be available later this year, and were on show recently at Enviro 04, Australia’s Forum on sustainable technology.
