What's The Best Advice You Ever Got?

advice.pngThe other day, I asked people in my wonderful community on Twitter: What's the best advice you ever got? Answers I received are below, filled with wisdom worth sharing. It wouldn't hurt our government and the Presidential candidates to heed this advice as they try to get the country out of hock.

What's the best advice you ever got? Please share it with us.

pdeluca: @whatsnext 2. Never take the credit or the blame for something you didn't do. 3. Never miss an opportunity to tell someone you love them.

pdeluca: @whatsnext best advice: 3 things: 1. always tell the truth. It's easier to remember.

diablogue_chat: @whatsnext: This is among some of the best advice rcvd (too many 2 recall all right now): If you want to make a friend, let someone help you

Cheryl_Smithem: @whatsnext when it comes to relationships, my mother gave me this, "always be kind to his mother. She was the 1st woman in his life."

60SecondTwitter: @whatsnext Re: Best Advice: This is a cliche, but when your parents told you to "be yourself" they knew what they were talking about.

ShannonRenee: RT @CreativeSage: @whatsnext Good advice—thank everyone who helps you, follow up, and give before you receive. Also, don't burn bridges.

Jerell: @whatsnext ...sometimes the best response, is no response

badbanana: @whatsnext I tell every graduate to build up a fund so they can quit their jobs if they get too far off their career track.

SmartWoman: @whatsnext Best advice I ever got: "Some ppl will like you, some won't, so be yourself. At least the ones who like you know the REAL you."

LPT: @whatsnext - when my older brother told me it's always better to be over-dressed than under-dressed. :-)

badbanana: @whatsnext Live beneath your means.

TobyDiva - My dad told me it's ok to fire a client.

glendafreeman: Best advice: Love, appreciate, and be thankful for the simple pleasures in life.

Something to think about when feeling extremely happy or sad: This too shall pass.

Ben - my grandma used to tell me that all the time. Ya know what? She was right.

Hey BL - thanks for including me in this creative post! My husband's grandfather shared that advice with us - he was a very smart guy, curator at the Smithsonian Institute was one of the many hats he wore.

Glad you shared everyone's great advice, which I can never get too much of. :)

This is tough, to narrow it down. I try hard to be a sponge and absorb insights and suggestions from everyone I admire and respect; I also try hard to open myself to learning from those I don't respect, as there's value in that, too.

The best advice I've gotten lately is: be patient. I'm a Driver, a Maverick. I know two speeds: asleep and full speed ahead. Someone I trust is trying to teach me that sometimes others have trouble adjusting to my style, and I need to take a side rather than a front door. Takes more time, might be more effective in some cases.
