Gmail is Down - Twitter Beats Mainstream Media Again

gmaildown.pngRyan James OSullivan, on Twitter, joking, I hope:

@RJO: OMG GMAIL IS DOWN MY LIFE ... ITS DESTROYED!!!
Here's yet another example of why so many people are so tuned in to Twitter. Gmail has been down, worldwide in my experience, for over 1/2 an hour, impacting a lot of people. No mention, through Google News search, of the outage. Twitter is a source of news, information, and camaraderie and a great place to kvetch in 140 characters at a time. Rock on.....

During the worldwide outage, as Techcrunch reports, "the productivity of 20 million people worldwide just spiked upward."

Does Google have a Twitter account? What about Gmail? If they did, they could be putting out all kinds of updates. Even just a "sorry, no clue what's up, working on it" every few minutes would be nice.

Thanks for highlighting this BL.

Easton - I'm trying to find that out. They aren't mentioning it on their blogs.

http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/ is their official blog. Narry a mention of the problem.

Yep, I'm one of the multitude who voiced my woes about the Gmail outage over Twitter. It's a useful little tool... especially joined with TwitterFox :) But I'm so glad to have my 27000-email Gmail inbox back up and running!
