Eight Secrets You Never Knew About Me

bl_sammy.jpgUh oh, a month ago (not reading my RSS feed often enough!) Toby Bloomberg tagged me for the 8 Secrets Meme Game. you tell 8 things people don't know about you and then you tag 8 more people to play and then they tag 8 more people and so on and so on ... I usually ignore these things, but, hey, it's Saturday. So here goes:

1. I am a terrible banjo player, even though I've taken lessons from Tony Trishka and Taj Mahal.
2. Before I was a swing dancer, I was a tap dancer.
3. I did publicity for the world's first singing wine bottle, and the world's largest tomato content. I've been a recovering flak for 10 years.
4. I've faced down death four times in the past 10 years: two very serious illnesses, hit by a car, and I'm 9/11 survivor.
5. I have a huge rubber-band ball that I add to regularly.
6. I've been married and divorced twice. And I intend to get married again one day.
7. When my late Labrador Retreiver, Sam Ochman, and I were a Delta Pet Partner team, a little boy named Taqui, who had cerebral palsy, said his first words, "Hello dog." Two weeks later, he said "Sam is a big yellow dog." And from then on, he talked up a storm.
8. I've been on Oprah three times, and on Today, Good Morning America, etc, etc. as Rent-A-Kvetch.

Ok, the bloggers I'm tagging to tell us their 8 Secrets are:
1. Joan Bramsch
2. Andres Biancotto
3. Hugh Macleod
4. Ann Handley
5. Rick Bruner
6. Heath Row
7. Ike Pigott
8. Connie Reece

And don't forget to check out Shel Israel's 8 secrets. Posted by BL Ochman

Do you intend too to get divorced one day?

Posted by: Daniel Ted Feliciano at February 4, 2008 5:05 AM

Daniel - nope - third time will be the last time, and for keeps

Let's make sure #4 stays at a total of four. Yikes! Please stay healthy.

Kudos to you and Sam on your therapy work! My now-angel Chesapeake Bay Retriever Kodi and I were a therapy team in a local nursing home for several years and it was the most rewarding volunteer work I ever did (and she did all of the work).

Take a look at angelonaleash.org to see a group that started here in NYC and now growing to points beyond. They're usually mentioned during the Westminster Kennel Club broadcast (coming up next Mon & Tues on USA Network).

3rd time has worked so far - at least for me.
I love #7, B.L.
Can't resist a quick banjo joke, though -
Q: what do you get when a banjo and an accordion are dropped from atop the Empire State Building?
A: Applause

Keep pickin' :)

U R amazing... okay, 10 things U didn't know about Bob

1. I raised 4 teenagers (a neurotic "Brady Bunch" and nuerotic Mr. Mom) for 12 years while my ex started her company, and I am a better man for hanging out with children.

2. I am divorced 4 times... (a repeat offender) and everytime I look back on the failures, I am the common denominator. (Still good friends with all the women)

3. I saved an elder man's life who feel off his bike and cracked his head open by packing his head in ice (from the local market) until the paramedics arrived. He repeated called me to have coffee with him to thank me... I'm sorry to say I never took him up on it.

4. I really was a friend of Groucho Marx.

5. I served dinner on a 747 flight to NY to coach passengers dressed in a flight attendents uniform with my late friend Peter Boyle.

6. I've played celebrity softball 3 times at the most hallowed of halls - Yankee Stadium.

7. I played in a pickup basketball game on a Saturday morning against Wilt Chamberlin (I never drove to the basket out of fear, and my most memorable sports memory)

8. Hegyes, my last name, is Hungarian for " mountain man, mountain peek, the apex"

9. I held my father in my arms when he died. (lucky me...truly)

10. I have been sober now for over two years (you'd drink and drug too raising 4 teenager...LOL)

BL... thanks for creating a moment for me to reflect, and I'll be passing your article and my list to my friends.

love & respects,

Bob Hegyes
