Why I Read the Tabloids (Besides the funnies)

dailynewscover.png"Hey I don't know if I'm dead!" says Tony Soprano on the cover of today's NY Daily News. And as you can see, in the Daily News, The Sopranos are a bigger story than the war in Iraq. And this could very well be one of the reasons mainstream media is losing ground.

The paper's cover is a reflection of what the paper's editors think a few million New Yorkers are talking about. By contrast, The Sopranos are not in the top 10 popular searches on Technorati, Google Trends or Yahoo's Buzz Index today.

I read The Daily News for their views because it helps me understand where a lot of people get the information on which they form their opinions. And I love the funnies. But when I want to know the news, I head online first.

How about you?

How could you prefer the Daily Snooze over the Post? Check the link below for my take ...

Hey BL, totally agree with that. You just have to watch everyone when they first get into work in the morning - first 20 minutes spent online reading the news. There was a report recently (which i read online of course) that said newspaper websites increased 22.3 percent!

Surely the role of editors is akin to the role of the "position marketer", and with the buzz about brand and content wikification, are becoming absolete - why choose what we think our consumers want, when we can tailor our content (or position) to give them what the want!
