United Dog, Social Network for Dogs, Launches and Signs 2,000 Members in a Week

uniteddog.pngThat's Benny Bix Ochman Labradoodle's home page on United Dogs, a new social networking site for, drum roll please: dogs. In fact, dogs can have, oy vey, blogs about their lives. There are forums for owners; you can comment on and rate the photos, etc. etc. They call it "a social revolution for dogs."

The Estonia-based site was launched about a week ago, and already has more than 2,000 pets as members, according to Mashable, which calls the photo-centric site "hot or not for pets."

I don't know what the business model is, but I'm sure they could easily sell a variety of products, and that advertisers will love this community of dog devotees.

I would be surprised if the site can continue to grow at that pace against its larger, more established, (and frankly much better) competition at Dogster.com. Like all things 'pet', I'm sure that people will enjoy having one more outlet for showing off their 'baby' (mine is below) but I don't see this site having the return traffic or viewing time/interaction to really get it rolling. Perhaps with the current 2.0 "unique visitor" valuations their only real need is to just get those signups in the first place.
Interesting food for thought, though - thanks for sharing!
