FDA, NY Times: Now It's Poison Medicine From China

What is it going to take for the US to boycott Chinese imports? Personally, I'm starting now. The latest concern is tainted cough syrup, fever medications, and even toothpaste containing poison.

The NY Times reports:

Toxic syrup has figured in at least eight mass poisonings around the world in the past two decades. Researchers estimate that thousands have died. In many cases, the precise origin of the poison has never been determined. But records and interviews show that in three of the last four cases it was made in China, a major source of counterfeit drugs.
The FDA issued a press release on the issue.

BL, why isn't this a HUGE story in the mainstream press? The NY Times article was thorough and extremely well-researched. I find it hard to believe that this news could fade away easily. It points to the very kinds of problems that led to the founding of the FDA in the first place. Thanks for keeping the story in front of us.
