What State of the Blogosphere Numbers Really Mean

Heather Green has an interesting post at Blogspotting about David Sifry's latest state of the blah blah Blogosphere report and what the numbers really mean.

The bottom line, while Technorati claims it tracks 70 million blogs, only 15.5 million are actually active. The growth of the blogosphere may be slowing. However, other areas of social media -- including including video, podcasts, and social networks -- continue to grow. That may be because producing blog content that other people want to read is hard work that's not for everyone.

I find Technorati so full of spam blogs and content scrapers that it's harder and harder to take any of their numbers seriously.
