Swedish Newspaper Goes 100% Digital, Expecting Growth

Picture%201.pngThe paper said to be the world's oldest still in publication, Post och Inrikes Tidningar, or PoIT, has abandoned print and become an online-only paper, according to The New York Times. Its editor and sole employee told Agence France-Presse that he's sure that being online will definitely widen its readership.

As businesses who've put up a website and waited for an onslaught of traffic can tell you, that's going to be a matter of marketing and relevance, not just a matter of being online. And if the paper, published in Swedish only, wants a larger audience, it will need editions in other languages.

Multilanguage translation is a crucial factor for online news. Yet the industry has been slow to embrace global positioning.

The paper, founded in 1645 by Queen Christina, is the official news organ of the Swedish government.

I wonder if the early copies have been translated and put on the web?
