Don't Blame Melissa McEwan. Blame John Edwards. He's a Wimp

Beleaguered blogger Melissa McEwan has left the John Edwards campaign. Her former colleague, blogger Amanda Marcotte, resigned Monday in the face of pressure from Catholic League president.

Writing on her blog, Shakespeare's SIster, McEwan says, "would like to make very clear that the campaign did not push me out, nor was my resignation the back-end of some arrangement made last week. This was a decision I made, with the campaign's reluctant support, because my remaining the focus of sustained ideological attacks was inevitably making me a liability to the campaign, and making me increasingly uncomfortable with my and my family's level of exposure."

That's a damn shame. She says she's sure progressive bloggers will be disappointed by her decision, and this one is. I'm sure it was a tough decision to make. She's gotten almost a thousand comments on her post about her resignation.

However, if Edwards had balls, he'd personally stand up against the Christian Right Wing and give em hell about trying to intimidate his staff.

But he hasn't done that. Scratch Edwards.

Next!

Amanda Marcotte wrote the following in her blog:

"Q: What if Mary had taken Plan B after the Lord filled her with his hot, white, sticky Holy Spirit?

A: You’d have to justify your misogyny with another ancient mythology."

Now, that's obviously equating the Holy Spirit to a human penis. The Holy Spirit is sacred in Catholicism. She is also calling Catholicism an "ancient mythology".

It is obvious she wrote that with the intent to offend. One doesn't have to be Catholic, conservative, or a Christian to see that. One doesn't have to be a fan of Bill Donohue to see that. This isn't about free speech. She's perfectly allowed to make those comments. But as a blogger for John Edwards, a presidential candidate, she's in a communications position. I'm sure you wouldn't want any of your clients to hire someone who equated a sacred holy symbol to a human penis.

Why the double standard?

Do you own any "balls"? I'm using your language.

You are blaming the wrong people. The RWN (noise) blamed these two for their writing, Edwards supported their first amendment rights, and you are using your amendment rights to criticize him, instead of those who threatened the women's lives.

He stood up for them; you stand up for no-one.

My Q: do you have the guts and spine, to put in Edwards' words.
