While Google Marches To World Domination, Yahoo! Beams Digital History Into Outer Space

yahoo_time_capsule.jpgWhile Google continues it scary path toward world domination, Yahoo is inviting participation in the Yahoo Time Capsule.

Until November 8, Yahoo! users worldwide can contribute photos, writings, videos, audio and drawings - to this electronic anthropology project. You also can and comment on the contributions from around the globe.

After November 8th, the capsule will be sealed and entrusted to Smithsonian Folkways Recordings based in Washington D.C., officially taking its place in history.

From October 25-27, content gathered from the Yahoo Time Capsule project will be projected onto the Teotihuacan pyramid located in Mexico and Yahoo will also beam the capsule info into space via a digitized laser!

Finally, to thank you for your contribution to the Time Capsule, you’ll be asked to help us select how Yahoo! will donate $100,000 to seven global charitable organanizations.

Frankly, this project seems quaint, and, dare I say it, sweet, in light of Google's billion dollar acquisitions and efforts to out Microsoft Microsoft.
