Top 10 Reasons I'm Switching to MAC

Apple.jpgI've used PCs since 1985, first IBM, then Gateway, then Dell. I'm on my third or fourth Dell and this one is a lemon, pure and simple.

As anyone who reads this or thousands of other blogs knows, Dell tech support sucks. So I'm going to the other side: I'm gonna buy me an Apple iMAC. I went to the SoHo Apple store today, and I loved the entire experience. Here are the top 10 reasons I'm switching:

10. The iMAC is pretty
9. I don't know of anyone who ever went back to a PC after switching to MAC. (Do You?)
8. It'll run Windows and MAC software (yes, I have heard Windows programs run slower, but they do run)
7. The people who work in the Apple store don't work on commission. They are actually there to help you.
6. I don't know anyone who has ever had a terrible problem with an Apple computer
5. My brother and my brother-in-law, both of whom are professionally involved with computers, each say their next computer will be a MAC.
4. The Apple store will transfer my data and install Windows Office (that I will buy) for free.
3. My Dell computer is a lemon and I've been in Dell Hell for a month
2. The new memory Dell sent to replace the memory in my broken Dell Inspiron was defective and that was the last straw
1. Dell tech support sucks

Have you made the switch? How'd it go? Are you happy with your Apple? How's the service?

I wouldn't get to wound up about running Windows on a Mac. You might se the fact that a Mac can run all that as a bit of a security blanket. Better to dive in and leave all that behind - IMO.

The only thing I still use from the dark side (I switched 5 years ago) is MS Word.

The Mac's Mail application is a delight. I recommend you use the Camino browser.

Ok, so I agree with you on Dell. This is the last Dell I'll ever own. I've been looking at a Macbook Pro, but I'm leaning towards one of the new HP notebooks. Weren't you concerned about buying and replacing software?

Congratulations! I switched 3 years ago and look back thinking it was the best decision still. I am painfully reminded every time I work on a friend or family member PC to help them out. Aouch, what a retarded system.

Just one thing, last night I trioed desperatly to read from my Mom her camera on her PC. 30mn, looking for drivers, installing, unplugging the hardware, blah blah blah. On my Mac, I simply plugged it is and... well, that was it.

Congratulations, with Parallels and MS Office if you really need it, you have everything you need and more than a PC could ever offer you.

I'm a Linux sysadmin in NYC. I stopped using Windows three years ago--I was tired of injuring myself in Windows-induced blue-screen and/or error-message-obfuscation rages--and switched my desktop to Linux.

I adore Linux; I really do. I use it every day ... on the command line. Keeping a DIY desktop system (gentoo and xfce) tuned and working properly, though, was a huge pain. I considered moving to a more desktop-friendly distro like Ubuntu, but it wasn't worth it to me. If I'm going to use a desktop OS that "just works", it might as well be one that is elegant and has a huge commercial support structure. In other words, if easy and pretty is what I want, why not get the easiest and prettiest?

So I switched to a Mac a year ago, and, though still am and will continue to be a Linux sysadmin, I plan on using a Mac desktop in perpetuity.

I switched to a Mac three year's ago and have never had an issue.

Beyond the fact that it never crashes, it's fast as hell and I run MS Office on it, the most important thing is that I actually love this computer. It's a weird thing to say, but it's true.

Service - never needed it, but love ProCare and going to the Apple store for the training sessions.

Eric: yes, software is an issue. the big expense will be photoshop and adobe professional. Windows does seem to be "a retarded system," like Nick says. a lot of the programs i now use, like adaware and lavasoft and zone alarm are built in to the MAC.

James: You're not the first person who's said they love their MAC. Friends of mine who've switched say exactly the same thing. I can't wait to join you.

I've heard once you go Mac you never go back.

Used one at my agency before coming client side and I miss it.

BL, I never switched TO Mac. I've been using Macs since 1984. I've only used PCs in clients' offices, and not happily.

I love my Mac and hope you enjoy your new machine too!

I love my Mac. But being Australian I parodied their cheesy TV ads - made a series of them on iMovie and posted them to YouTube. The Mac versus PV ones. I've had 125,000 views on one video alone - "Mac is Gay". Seems you Americans don't get our Australian humour. Should see the comments. I also have "The Effects of LSD on Microsoft PC Users" and that got you lot going too. I've had death threats! Then there's "Mac the Stoner & PC the Crackhead" - which also makes people want to kill me. Even though it's obvious they're made on a Mac. But at least the lady at BlipTV gets it - she thinks I'm genius. Get a Mac, BL - you'll never look back.
