Social Media Sites Make Creating Contests Simple and Cheap(er)
By B.L. OchmanBazooka Bubble Gum has launched a contest seeking Bazooka Dance videos. The campaign centers on the song, originally called "Choo'n Gum" recored by Teresa Brewer in the 1950s. It's been popular for many years with summer camp girls who changed the lyrics to "Bazooka-Bazooka Bubblegum."
The site lets you listen to the song, mash it up, make ringtones, do a karaoke version, make your own video and send it to a friend. You upload your video to YouTube, saving Bazooka the trouble and expense of creating a video upload site of its own.
Social media sites like MySpace, blip.tv, flickr, SecondLife are providing easy tie-ins for marketers' campaigns, saving them huge programming fees.
Two weeks after the launch it is funny to see that young kids are indeed picking up the dance and creating their own versions of it. I guess it IS the right time for this kind of initiatives, giving the ease to publish video on the web and knowing that this generation of kids/young adults grew up with the web.
Check out those recent videos. It can only make you smile... :)
