PR Newswire is Blogging, Sort Of

PR Newswire lists Media Insider Blog on its public website, but not on its website for journalists.

And although Media Insider, which apparently has been a blog since April 15th, Oct. 2004, has permalinks and trackbacks, but it doesn't allow comments and it is sporadically updated. Looks like they're testing and not ready for prime time. (Update: Which is why I thought they just started blogging.) See, guys, it takes more to make it a blog than just calling it a blog.....

mediainsider has been around for a lot longer than a few months. I think about two years.

John: It's been around as a newsletter, but now it's a blog. that is new.

Actually, John is right :) Media Insider has started in October 2004 and it's written by Maria Perez and Dan Forbush.

I emailed Maria Perez and Dan Forbush to get the date when Media Insider became a blog. I'll report their answer.

Hi BL --

We've been doing Media Insider as a webzine since 1998 chiefly to support general information sharing (events, job opportunities, media moves, ProfNet moves, PR Newswire moves, etc.) among ProfNet members. When blog software came along, we scrapped our previous content-management system and moved it to Blogware. That was in October, 2004.

Most of the items we post are strictly of a straight informational nature that aren't likely to generate comment, and so we keep our "comments" box closed to foil spammers. We don't much care whether people call it a "blog" or not. As we have since 1998, we view Media Insider simply as a place to post content that we have reason to think will be of interest to our members
but will take up more space than we want to give it in a ProfNet query feed.

Hope that helps. Cheers...
Dan
