Feds to New York City: Drop Dead

NY_Icons.jpg
What do The Empire State Building, The Chrysler Building, The Statue of Liberty, The United Nations, Yankee Stadium, The New York Stock Exchange, Brooklyn Bridge, Grand Central Terminal, The Federal Reserve Bank, The Port Authority Bus Terminal and Penn Station have in common?

The federal Department of Homeland Security, headed by Bush nominee Michael Chertoff, says none of them are national icons or monuments. And then several moneys flew out of his ass.

That's what the morons at DHS say in the report they issued as they cut our federal anti-terrorism funding, and Washington DC's by nearly half and increased federal funding to cities like Atlanta, GA, Louisville, KY and Charlotte, NC that have never been attacked.

Bloomberg/Gore in 08!
Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who makes more sense and who gets ballsier every day, blasted the feds: "

When you stop a terrorist, they have map of New York City in their pocket, they don't have a map of any of the other 46 places or 45 places,'' the mayor added, referring to the total number of cities that share the funds.

I'd love to see a Bloomberg-Gore ticket in an independent party in 2008. They may be charisma-challenged, but I think we the nation is ready to look for candidates who can actually do the job.

Republican Congressman Peter King, who represents New York in the House and serves as chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, labeled the funding cut "indefensible and disgraceful.''' As far as I'm concerned, DHS and the administration have declared war on New York City, and I am going to fight this as hard as I possibly can.'

"To say that there are no national monuments in this city that are vulnerable to an attack," said Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, "is an insult to every New Yorker."

Says Wonkette:

"Let's look on the bright side: We are relieved that DHS is clearly so devoted to protecting the Midwest. That's where our nation's breweries are, after all."
