Google Trends Launched, Blogs Ignored

By B.L. Ochman Google is in the midst of a press day, announcing a slew of new products, the first of which -- Google Trends -- is remarkable. BUT, and this is a big but, the results do not include blog posts.

How it works: Google Trends allows you to search Google traffic and analyzes shows how many searches have been done on certain terms over time. It also shows how many times the topics appeared in Google News, but not blogs.

Maybe they plan a Technorati-busting blog search engine soon. Or hell, maybe they'll just buy Technorati.

Also announced, Google Desk Top 4 Beta gets a thumbs up from PC Magazine, which notes that there is no MAC or Linux support. "

A burgeoning group of plug-in panels available--159 to date! Desktop search continues to work well."

Boy, I'm glad I bought those three shares of Google. :>)

They already do have a Blog Search Engine in beta testing. http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en

I think that the reason why they are using News instead of Blogs as reference to somehow correlate events (as reported in the news) with the search trend line is because blogs are already being abused by SEO/SEM people to get good rankings for their targeted keywords - Hence blogs are not an accurate representation of the "signs of the times" as compared to news which are subject to much more stringent editors. Blogs are a free for all.

I think that the reason why Google has a Blog Search in beta testing is because they would soon be filtering out blogs from their main Web search as splogs and blogs themselves are starting to become like legitimate search engine spam.

Google is still bringing new services to the users. I hope that they will not consider blogs with lower importance since there are also blogs that can provide good informations.

Buying technorati is good scoop for Google. Although this post is old, I've been looking for some possibilities if Google would be interested to buy Technorati and if so, would the T be willing to give in for the right price?
