True Confessions: I Hate Podcasts

I've listened to scores of podcasts over the past year and I have to admit: they bore me to tears. Sure there are good ones here and there, but the vast majority are long, generally unscripted, sound like they were made in someone's living room, and (without naming names) often feature people whose voice, diction and presentation is just plain annoying.

Am I thed only one who's not excited about podcasting?

The best ones I have heard come from former broadcasters, who know how to keep it short and to the point.

Watching Washington is a great example of how to do it.

No. I love the concept and hate the reality. My only consolation is that once the novelty wears off, quality will win.

I love podcasts. They arn't all perfect. I focus on the information, not the cuteness of voices.

Overall, I'm a fan of podcasts - or at least the ideas of podcasts. I'm most surprised by how boring some of the leading podcasts are though - it hurts to listen to some of them.

Confession: I like the amateur quality of most podcasts. Sometimes I run across a very annoying voice, but part of the charm is that it's untrained and unscripted. In general, I love listening to people talk - TV, radio, or podcasts.

I think you just have to find the ones that work for you - which is always about content.

I've now cut back to 4 that I subscribe to.

I think that 20 mins is about the right length.

After the "shake out," quality, relevance and value will seize the day. Pod/vodcasting for sales training/support and distance learning could be a winner.
