Study: 75% of Blog Pings are from Spam Blogs

splogs.jpgA new study at UMBC eBiquity Research Group at the University of Maryland proves that almost three of every four pings to blog servers are from spam blogs, or splogs, which they say constitute 50% of all claimed blogs.

Frankly, I don't see that blog software publishers are taking this problem seriously enough. It's becoming impossible for bloggers to keep up with the spam in comments and trackbacks. So a lot of top bloggers have turned them off, which defeats the two-way conversation on which social media is based.

When will blog publishers, including Google, announce how they are eliminating blog ping spam? The problem is solveable. But not by individual bloggers. The big blog software owners have to give a damn. Now!
